Justin Cox, Ph.D.

Harry M. Davis Distinguished Professor
Justin Cox earned his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi, an M.B.A. from Louisiana Tech University, an M.A. from the University of Central Florida, and a B.S.B.A. from Coastal Carolina University.
He serves as an associate professor in the department, teaching undergraduate courses in banking and finance. His research has been published in leading finance journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, and the Journal of Financial Markets, among others. His research interests include market microstructure, investments, and corporate finance.
Dr. Cox is also a senior faculty member in the North Carolina School of Banking, the longest-running state banking school in the nation and headquartered at Appalachian State University. His honors include the Harry M. Davis Distinguished Professorship (2025–Present) and the Sywassink Excellence in Research Award, conferred by the Walker College of Business (2025).
He currently teaches FIN 3790, Banking & Financial Markets. Outside of academia, he enjoys golfing, skiing, and hiking.
