General Description
The investment management area includes mutual funds, ETFs, hedge funds, and other private investment companies. As the name implies, investment management involves the soliciting of funds from investors with the objective of generating good returns for the investors. Jobs range from very sales oriented, to very quantitative, to very customer service focused. Competition for entry level jobs is very high.
Work toward earning the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation would give you a leg up. Entry-level employees tend to use Excel and PowerPoint extensively. Developing programming knowledge (e.g., Python) for data analysis can be helpful.
